Today I am going to tell you about a good memory I have of a place we visited when I was younger.
So 5 years ago, my mama and dada1 and me went to Indonesia! We took a 2 hour ride on the plane and when we arrived, we had to get into a van. The van stopped so many times, picking up and dropping off passengers along the way, and the journey for us took six hours! When we finally got off the van, I thought we were there, but no, there was one more vehicle we needed to get on: A GIGANTIC, ENORMOUS BOAT. Mama said that our hotel was on an island called Lake Toba2. By the time we got there (we arrived at the airport in the morning), the sun was setting and the view from our room balcony was INCREDIBLE! The water was so blue and the sky became orange, then pink then dark and then the birds came out and made a good, peaceful song in the air.
We had dinner at a shop that was made ENTIRELY by bamboo and twines! The food was just okay for me though. Not spicy.
As we were walking back to our hotel room, we found a wood workshop and watched a man make cool wooden sculptures. My mama loved one of the wind chimes because it made a clanking sound that was soothing. She bought one and we took it home with us, but now, we no longer have it because my dada took everything.
The hotel room was great! There were twin beds. And for me, twin beds in a hotel means… BLANKET FORT TIME!!
The next day, we rented a motorcycle and rode all over the island, all around the jungle. I love going on motorcycles, and this time I got to sit in the front. Mama was too scared, I don’t know why because she was in the backseat, you can see nothing in the backseat!
We went back to the mainland later that day, on another boat, another van ride, to Medan. This hotel had a giant swimming pool with dragon statues this time! The hotel room didn’t have twin beds, so we spent our days downstairs for… POOOOOLLLL TIIIIMEEEE!! The pool was very warm so I liked it. I swam with my Lightning McQueen floaties and mama just relaxed and dada just- who knows he what did! After pool time, we went for a walk and I waited for mama while listening to 5 Crocodeil , Un Elephante Qui Se Balançait and some other nice French songs on mama’s phone ! (I still like to listen to them sometimes) while mama went to buy some fried bananas at a hawker on the side of the road. The man used a recycled fan cover to drain the oil from his bananas, I thought that was really cool!
After that, we also went to the batik dress shop. Mama asked me to try some on. I tried it all on and they were so cute and pretty for me! There were leaf patterns and flower shadows, even some zigzag patterns! My mama bought 3 pairs for me and the 3 were the best! The 3 were…. A black background with white flowers batik dress, a mint green background with yellowish brown leaf outlines dress, and a magenta (dark pink) background with bright bright pink flowers (or pink leaves, I can’t remember well) and can you believe we actually bought all of them? I wanted to get everything from the shop but mama said not this time, and then she took a picture of me wearing every one of the ones I really wanted so we can remember them for next time.
I truly loved that memory! I loved that mama and me made a blanket fort, and how we chased after the monkey who’d stolen her camera lens thinking it was food! The only thing I hated was that dada was not there when we were having fun. He kept going off doing things alone. It must have been so boring for him!
How was your trip to Indonesia, or other beautiful countries?
He Who Must Not Be Named’s son who is also He Who Must Not be Named.
Don’t ask me why the name is so so weird. For my opinion, it sounds like a scientific term of farting so hard until you poop.
Im so happy you have good memories little one… they are what make us smile as well as cry - but this is also good! 🥹♥️🎵🍃
I enjoyed our trip there too!
