My therapist is helping me out with my hard feelings to handle and, there are some tips and tricks that I learned with her that I want to discuss with you.
Goals.
Having goals is like trying to let your brain focus on something good rather than only the bad things happening in your life.
I have many goals to achieve right now so it was hard for me to come up with one, but my therapist told me that once I can have one goal “done right”, I can have as many goals as I want later on. She told me to use this guide to make sure that the goal or goals I make can be achieved in the best possible way:
Specific
Measurable
Achievable
Realistic
Time.
Specific
It needs to be in so much detail! For example, I can’t just say I want to earn my own money, I have to say
I want to earn enough money so that I can buy as many books and chocolates as I want.
Measurable
You will also need to make sure that the amounts can be counted, so something like
I want to earn enough money so that I can buy books to fill two shelves and chocolates so I’ll never be hungry again.
Achievable
The achievable part is when the goal has to make sense like this:
I want to earn a lot of money so I can buy all the books and chocolates in the whole wide world!
I want to earn enough money so that I can buy my own treats and not have to ask my mama for them anymore.
Realistic
This is sort of like achievable, so it needs to make sense and it needs to be something that is possible to do.
I want to earn a lot of money enough to buy a whole candy land and live only with fairies for the rest of my life.
Now that just sounds ridiculous, unless you are Willy Wonka.
Time
It is sort of like a dead line too but this one has to be EXACT. For example….
I want to earn enough money to buy myself books to fill two shelves and chocolates so I’ll never be hungry again or have to ask my mama for money by my 16th birthday, which will be on the 28th of February, 2030.
What would be your Specific, Mesurable, Achievable, Realistic, Timed goals? (Did you notice that all these words make up the word SMART? Hehehehe.)
Tell me in the comments!
I’ll write up the next part of this, another trick to being able to control your hard feelings, in the next week. See you there!
Ps. I’m sorry there is no drawing this week. I have been drawing on paper and the tablet for transferring my drawings on the computer is not working and we can’t have it fixed yet because we have to save for the upcoming Eid. I’ll try to figure out how to put in some pictures of my drawings on paper for next time. Sorry!
Miya, I’m so impressed by you. It’s so brave to share and get work out into the world. I hope your publication brings you lots of joy as you write and draw and share stories. I love this post & that your therapist is helping you with hard feelings. Also, your mum sounds awesome. (My son & I love Brooklyn 99 too.)
Ps chocolate is a sensational motivation.
